Read by Barbara Bear and Mama Bear.

You haven’t fully experienced the diversity of LibriVox until you have listened to some of the recordings by our younger readers. This recording is a duet by mother and daughter reading one of the classic children’s stories. These two readers bring the book to life together.

What is this? Every week the volunteers at Librivox pick a different recording to present to our listeners. The spotlighted recordings vary from week to week in order to call attention to the variety of works available here at Librivox and to show how much we appreciate all the effort and work our readers put into each project. The featured selection may be poetry, novels, short stories or non-fiction. All of them can be found within our growing catalog and are available for download. Want to learn more?

Montreal Gazette on LibriVox

After more than a year of LibriVoxing and articles in lots of fancy newspapers in other countries, and interviews and stories on many radio stations, my hometown newspaper decided to do a story on LibriVox! Unfortunately, the Gazette decided not to put the article online, but the writer put it up on his own site. Here tis:

LibriVox and the Power of Distributed Communities.

Nice article, by the same writer who did the NY Times piece a while back (you may recognize some sentences). Juicy quote:

LibriVox’s success is a study in how blogs and other collaborative Internet technologies are enabling large groups of people from all over the world to come together and build not just a community but also something tangible, a product or service.

Weekly Picks: Robinson Crusoe Written Anew for Children by James Baldwin

Posted on October 13, 2006 by | Posted in Uncategorized, Weekly Picks | Comments: Comments Off on Weekly Picks: Robinson Crusoe Written Anew for Children by James Baldwin

Read by Denny Sayers.

Denny’s reading of “Robinson Crusoe Written Anew for Children” is a great introduction to some of our children’s literature at LibriVox. He does a great job drawing the listener into the story. This classic story has been adapted for children and Denny’s love of children comes through in how he tells the story. It is written in the first person and Denny reads as though he is Crusoe himself to further bring the story alive.

Weekly Picks: Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad

Read by Kristin LeMoine (Luoma).

Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad has been interperted many different ways since its publication in 1899. It has been the inspiration for T.S. Eliot’s “The Hollow Men” and Francis Ford Coppola’s Apocolypse Now. Given the varying reactions to the text, this reading by Kristin avoids the potential pitfalls of over-interpertation, and allows the haunting story to emerge. Her careful pacing and enunciation reflect Conrad’s deliberate language. Kristin’s straightforward reading allows listeners to take their own journey through the depths of Conrad’s symbolism.
