Sorry folks, the LibriVox forum has gone down due to continuing problems as we try to rebuild/shore up our infrastructure following the hack a while ago.

More news when available.

Sorry again.

EDITED TO ADD: Forums and catalogue are now back up (18:30 GMT)

In the new changes you implemented in the website for the catalogue, you actually broke how quotes are treated… All single and double quotes are now being escaped by the system, with clear problems for the resulting text.
I’m not sure if the problem is while storing to or retrieving from the database, but just to let you know.

    Hi there,

I am writing because I want to thank you all for the great services you are providing to thousands of people.

I am sure you are doing your best to fix it as soon as possible and I wish you all the best !!

    Kind regards,

    Franco

Just wondering, but how come your new releases appear on your “Librivox’s New Releases” feed, but they no longer appear on the front page of your web site anymore?

    Thanks,
    Andrea

  4. Starlite says:

Andrea, the new releases is now showing up on the home page.

  5. Christopher says:

A lot of these recordings are really terrible. Who in the world would listen to them?

  6. LibriVoxer says:

@Christopher. Thanks for your comment. A lot of these recordings are also of professional quality, and they are all free. Just choose the ones you like and leave the ones you don’t.

We would have no readers at all, and there would be no free audiobooks, if everyone was as negative as you are. No-one can improve unless they gain experience through practice.

Why not come along and have a go yourself?

  7. TomInChicago says:

    Terrible? Go to Borders then.

  8. Sue H says:

Thank you for the many hours of enjoyment I have each week from your downloaded audiobooks. Thank you to the many readers. I am so pleased you are up and running normally again.

  9. Tanya says:

Thank you!! These audio books help me through many sleepless nights and monotonous days. Much appreciated :)

Your posting of Ben Bova’s DUELING MACHINE is in violation of current copyright. Please remove it.

  11. Barry says:

@ Lloyd – Per Project Gutenberg, the version used for this recording is in the public domain. However, this isn’t the best venue for discussing this. Please email info@librivox.org if you would like to discuss it further.

  12. dgkhowe says:

I can’t believe someone actually said that the recordings were “terrble” — it reminds me of the Woody Allen joke: “The problem with this restaurant is that the food is terrible … and the portions are too small.”
    : )

I’ve been listening to Sayers Whose Body? — there are at least two readers and I think they are doing very well.

  13. Balemir URAGUN says:

I think this is great work. Maybe some of the readings are better than others but they are all in good will.

I do appreciate volunteers kind work and many thanks for their time and efforts.

    Best Regards

I have been listening to one of your books which has more than 20 chapters. Chapters are read by different voices.

I appreciate being able to access this book.

However, one of the voices has an accent that makes it difficult for me to understand some of the words.

This person (whose name I can’t understand) always says she is “from Portugal”
