John Hanning Speke (1827 - 1864)

This volume by British explorer Captain John Hanning Speke contains accounts of his first two expeditions into East Africa in the 1850s. Vol 1 is "Journal of Adventures in Somali Land", and Vol 2 is "Journal of a Cruise on the Tanganyika Lake". Both accounts include details of the beliefs and mode of life of the local people, as well as full descriptions of the sometimes harrowing expeditions. (Summary by Ted Lienhart)
