A supernatural melodrama, set in the Fens and Marshlands of Cambridgeshire, which draws upon the traditional folklore of witchcraft. Linda Pettingill Merle is the central character, just celebrating her twenty first birthday. Linda is an upper middle class young lady and her coming of age gives her charge of a Manor house and lands in Merelsfleet: She has already become disenchanted by the shortness of human existence and wishes to know whence she comes and wither she goes.
