The Flying Eyes

J. Hunter Holly (1932 - 1982)

The National Guardsmen waited for the Flying Eyes, restlessly fingering their rifles and machine guns. Then they came-eight of them-diving straight at the men. The men opened fire. One of the Eyes shot upward, blood and tears streaming from its wound. As the men watched, a glaze spread over the wound drawing the hole together. The Eye was healed and whole again-and it gazed at the men with the same sinister expression they had seen before. Then the full horror of what they had witnessed hit them. Nothing could stop these weird, disem- bodied creatures who were daily hypnotizing thousands of people and leading them into dark oblivion and threatening to blanket the Earth with a new, alien kind of civilization. - Summary by Inside book cover
