Susie King Taylor (1848 - 1912)

Susie King Taylor was a Black nurse in the 33rd United States Colored Troops in the Union Army during the American Civil War, a teacher and a significant contributor to the work of the Women’s Relief Corps. Her memoirs recount her remarkable life from enslavement in Georgia, war, service to the community and reflections on the state of the nation in the early 20th century.
