Lukundoo and Other Stories

Edward Lucas White (1866 - 1934)

Edward Lucas White was a well-regarded author of weird fiction, admired by the likes of H. P. Lovecraft. The title story of this collection is an oft-anthologized strange tale of the dangers of colonialism with a truly jaw-dropping body horror climax. Many of the stories in this collection have White taking the time to build character and place only to pull the rug out from underneath the reader, leaving them with something truly bizarre and unnatural. In addition to the supernatural tales White is known for, this collection also includes a novelette of vikings and Icelandic settlers of long ago interwoven with the tale of a mythical sword. - Summary by Ben Tucker
