William H. Councill (1848 - 1909)

William H. Councill, former slave and contemporary of Booker T. Washington was founder of Huntsville Normal School, now Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University in Normal, Alabama. This book written in a question and answer format is his view of the history or the “Negro Race” from Africa through slavery in the United States, and accomplishments after emancipation, and all fields of culture through near the end of the 19th Century. - Summary by Larry Wilson
