Cistellaria; or, The Casket

Titus Maccius Plautus (254 BCE - 184 BCE)
Translated by Henry Thomas Riley (1816 - 1878)

The casket is a small box with recognition tokens in it so that someone can prove that they are who they claim to be. Which tells you that there will be quite the confusion with people in this play being other than whom they seem to be, are believed to be, or even whom they believe themselves to be. Plus rape, incest, attempted murder by exposure, kidnapping, slavery.... Good thing this all takes place almost 2500 years ago.
