I’m not quite sure what blueyonder is — it seems to be the content page for telwest, a UK broadband supplier — but anyway it’s a serious site, and in this article they give their podcast recommendations. And what are those recommendations? BBC, CBC, NPR, Guardian Unlimited … and LibriVox! Wow. That’s some good company to be in. Here’s what they say about us:

Love literature? Why not put your voice to good use? Librivox is an ingenious site, which invites people to record themselves reading chapters from books, and then releases the files as audiobook podcasts. The site’s ambitious goal is to eventually record all the books in the public domain – and because the books are no longer in copyright, and all the readers are volunteers, it means that the podcast is made available absolutely free of charge. Finished works include Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, PG Wodehouse’s Psmith in the City and Fyodor Dostoyevsky’s Notes from the Underground; Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Franz Kafka’s The Trial are among the works in progress. Sign yourself up, clear your throat, and lend your dulcet tones to this admirable effort, or just grab the podcast and enjoy the work of others.

Nice.

Here at LibriVox, we really like a few things:

  • podcasting
  • books
  • librivox volunteers

Well, just in time for christmas (or chanukah, or the holidays) you can support all three. Neal Foley, aka the Podchef, who puts out a great podcast about food, cooking and food politics, and one of the very first LibriVox volunteers has just published a cookbook comprised of recipes from his podcast, along with beautiful photos. All the design, layout, photos, writing etc was done by the man himself, quite an undertaking, and we applaud the DIY spirit.

You can buy a hard copy of the book from Lulu.com (the print on demand company): here.

And you can still get the pdf for free, I believe, here.

I’ve tried a couple of recipes with great success. Enjoy. And congrats to Neal.
