Willard Glazier (1841 - 1905)

Willard Worchester Glazier (August 22, 1841 - April 26, 1905) was a school teacher, Union soldier, and explorer from upstate New York. During the Civil War he was captured and sent to Libby Prison, then later to Andersonville. He escaped with the assistance of slaves. He turned his war experiences into several books. He became an amateur explorer and published books on those experiences as well. In 1902 he explored uncharted territory on the Labrador Peninsula in northern Maine and discovered what is known as Glazier Lake along U.S. / Canadian border north of St. John’s River.
