DeWitt C. Peters (1829 - 1876)
Dr. DeWitt Clinton Peters, Sr. (30 July 1829 - 22 April 1876) was an army surgeon. He served in Texas before the Civil War, then in Baltimore during the war, and afterwards in New Mexico. He and his 7-mos.-pregnant wife Emily were in attendance at Ford's Theater when Lincoln was shot. In 1859, Kit Carson had dictated his autobiography to him, which was subsequently published.
