Epiktet (c. 50 - 125)

Epictetus ( Epik'tet , Greek Ἐπίκτητος Epictetus , latin Epic'tetus ; * 50 in Hierapolis in Phrygia ; † around 125 in Nicopolis in Epirus ) was an ancient philosopher . He is one of the most influential representatives of the late Stoicism . As a slave Epictetus came to Rome , where he came into contact with Stoic doctrines and began to teach. Expelled from Rome he founded in Nicopolis, a philosophical school , where he taught until his death. As Epictetus himself wrote no works, his philosophy is only in the writings of his pupil Arrian handed, who recorded his lectures.
