Haji A. Browne (ca. 1812 - 1907)
Haji Abdullah Browne (Alfred Browne) was of Anglo-Irish heritage and converted to Islam in 1876 after a visit to Egypt. He wrote for the Islamic newspapers published in New York City and in Liverpool. Browne later moved to Egypt and started his own newspaper The Egyptian Herald (al-Mubashshir al-Misri). This paper published at Cairo, and edited by Haji Abdullah Browne, was printed partly in English and partly in Arabic. He died in 1907 at the age of 95 after living for more than 30 years in Egypt.
