Hermann Gunkel (1862 - 1932)

Hermann Gunkel was a German Old Testament scholar. He is most noted for founding the method of biblical criticism known as form criticism, and was also a leading representative of the History of Religions school, stressing the literary values of the Old Testament by comparative study of the legends on which it draws.
