José de Alencar (1829 - 1877)

José Martiniano de Alencar was a Brazilian lawyer, politician, orator, novelist and dramatist. He is one of the most famous writers of the first generation of Brazilian Romanticism, writing historical, regionalist and Indianist romances — one of the most famous being The Guarani. He wrote some works under the pen name Erasmo.
