C. A. M. Taber (1824 - 1911)

Charles Austin Mendall Taber was an American whaling captain, author, and poet. At age 15, C.A.M. Taber had first shipped out on a local whaler. After many years at sea, he would become master of his own vessel, the Millinocket. It was during his time at the helm of whaling ships that he began writing some of the poems that dealt with life at sea, and ashore between voyages. He also published several scientific volumes in his mature years.
