Ammon B. Critchfield (1863 - 1942)

General Ammon B Critchfield (23 August 1863 - 22 September 1942) was an American soldier and newspaper editor. He served during the Spanish American War and World War I. He was the founder of Camp Perry, Ohio, in 1906, and was largely responsible for the establishment of Fort Benning in Georgia. Early in his career, Critchfield edited the newspaper in Shreve, Wayne Co., Ohio. From 1936 to 1937, Critchfield was president of the National Rifle Association.
