W. D. Haley (1828 - 1890)

William D'Arcy Haley (2 May 1828 - 2 March 1890) was an England-born American Unitarian minister, journalist, and writer who was most famous for penning the first story of Johnny Appleseed, which appeared in Harper's Magazine in November 1871. As a writer he typically used his initials, W. D. Haley.
