A. J. Gault (1818 - 1903)

Andrew Jackson Gault (October 4, 1818 - February 11, 1903) was an American editor and poet. He was a pioneer settler in Clinton County, Iowa, and was for many years editor of The Wheatland Spectator. Dale Carnegie, in his book The Unknown Lincoln, quotes Lincoln's friend Ward Lamon: "Many a time on the Illinois circuit and often at the White House when Lincoln and I were alone I have seen him in tears while I was rendering that homely melody." (referring to the poem "Twenty Years Ago".)
