Thomas Bracken (1843 - 1898)

New Zealander Thomas Bracken was born in Ireland. He became a prominent poet, journalist, and politician, penned New Zealand's anthem, "God Defend New Zealand", coined the phrase "God's Own Country" for New Zealand, and was awarded the prize for poetry from the Otago Caledonian Society.
