Vance Hoyt (1889 - 1967)

Vance Joseph Hoyt was an American osteopath, naturalist and author. He was a practicing physician from 1916-1932. Hoyt became a popular nature columnist and book write, not just describing the natural world he observed but advocating for protections for animals and the unique chaparral ecology of the Santa Monica Mountains as well as for a more humane attitude towards wildlife. He authored and was the technical director of the motion picture, Sequoia (1935), and wrote free-lance articles for a variety of magazines.
