François Jean Paoli (1837 - 1923)

Captain François-Jean Paoli (December 26, 1842 - March 29, 1923) was a Corsican gendarme and poet. He used proceeds from the sale of his poetry to found the Caisse Nationale du Gendarme (National Gendarme Fund) in 1885, which helped support the families of missing and fallen gendarmes.
