Nik Welter (1871 - 1951)

Nik Welter (2 January 1871 - 13 July 1951) was a renowned Luxembourgish writer, playwright, poet, professor, literary critic (Germanic and Romance languages), and statesman, who helped shape early 20th century Luxembourg politics. He actively supported the first girls' lyceum established in 1909. His works advocate workers and women's rights, they evoke the beauty of nature, human passion and frailties and Luxembourgish culture and history. He mainly wrote in German.
