Francis Everton (1883 - 1956)

Francis Everton is a pseudonym of Francis William Stokes, a British crime novelist. An engineer by training, he successively held various management positions in the family business. Like the crime novel authors Freeman Wills Crofts and John Rhode who were also engineers, he developed a taste for writing alongside his professional activities. Between 1927 and 1936, he adopted the pseudonym Francis Everton (his mother was born Harriet Everton) to publish six detective novels, which stand out from current production by their attention to detail and the importance given to the psychology of the characters.
