Olive Roberts Barton (1880 - 1957)

Olive Louise Roberts was born on July 26, 1880 in Allegheny City, Pa. ( now a part of Pittsburgh, Pa.), the daughter of Thomas Beveridge and & Cornelia Gilleland Roberts. On June 19, 1902 Olive married James Lowrie Barton. Olive began to teach school at 17. Began writing children's books (initially syndicated as "serial" stories in the newspapers). she also wrote a series of books about "Nancy & Nick" as well as "Cloud Boat Stories", "Story riddles in Rhyme & Prose", "Bramble Bush riddles". from 1919 till 1939 she wrote a column syndicated in & appearing daily in 400+ NEA and Scripps-Howard newspapers on child rearing and sometimes on more general subjects.
