Geoffrey Studdert Kennedy (1883 - 1929)
Geoffrey Studdert Kennedy (27 June 1883 – 8 March 1929) was a poet and Anglican priest born in Yorkshire of Irish descent. During the First World War he earned his nickname of ‘Woodbine Willie’ from his habit of giving Woodbine cigarettes to the soldiers he met, as well as spiritual aid to injured and dying soldiers.
