Nathaniel H. Bishop (1837 - 1902)

Nathaniel Bishop was an American explorer and author. At 17 he worked his way south from Massachusetts on a sailing ship, then hiked across South America. Later he became a canoe enthusiast, and took two boating trips: one from Quebec down the east coast of the US in a canoe, and one down the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers into the Gulf of Mexico in a "Sneakbox". He was for many years the Secretary of the American Canoe Association, as well as one of its founders.
