William Burgess (1843 - 1922)

The Rev. William Burgess was an English-American Congregational clergyman, author, publicist, and social reformer. He was best known locally as the executive secretary of the Illinois Vigilance association. Dr. Burgess was author of the "Bible in Shakespeare"; "Religion of Ruskin"; "Land, Labor, and Liquor"; "The World's Social Evil"; and "Bible Sidelights from Shakespeare."
