Barbara Torelli (c. 1475 - 1533)

Barbara Torelli (c. 1475-1533) was an Italian noblewoman from Emilia. She was active in the cultured courtly circles of Mantua and Ferrara, where she met her second husband Ercole Strozzi, who was assassinated shortly after their marriage. Torelli was credited with a sonnet on the subject in a 1713 publication. The poem won widespread admiration, but this attribution is now generally regarded as spurious.
