Alexander Jardine Hunter (1868 - 1940)
A. J. Hunter attended the University of Toronto medical school and Knox College. In Teulon, Manitoba in he worked as a medical missionary for the Presbyterian Home Missionary Society and practiced medicine. He helped Ukrainian immigrants to this region. This led to his interest and admiration of the Ukrainian culture. He became fluent in Ukrainian and then translated important Ukrainian literary works into English. Stemming from his interest in entomology, a fly (Chilosia hunteri) was named after him. He became an Officer of the Order of the British Empire. A hospital in Teulon has been given his name.
