Emile Négrin (1833 - 1878)

Émile Négrin (14 October 1833 - 15 September 1878) was a French poet. After being trained as a notary, Émile Négrin quickly turned his attention to literature and poetry. He created a dictionary of the French and Provençale languages. His "Promenades de Nice" documents Nice as it was around 1860. In 1872 he suddenly lost his eyesight and was paralysed. He continued to write poetry and was nicknamed 'the Homer of Cannes'. Among his famous friends were Victor Hugo, Michelet and Sainte-Beuve.
