Mae Franking (1890 - )

Mae Franking was an American who met a Chinese man in Michigan in the early 1900s, and married him, moving to China. By her own conscious choice, Mae succeeded in becoming a proper Chinese wife and daughter-in-law. Because of the legal and social restrictions of the time, interracial relationships such as theirs were bitterly and publicly discouraged.
