John Rollin Ridge (1827 - 1867)

A member of the Cherokee Nation (Cherokee name: Cheesquatalawny, or Yellow Bird), the author of "The Life and Adventures of Joaquin Murieta, the Celebrated California Bandit", which became the first English novel written by a Native American writer.
