Charles Ernest Fay (1836 - 1931)
Professor Charles Ernest Fay (1846–1931) was an American alpinist and educator. He was born at Roxbury, Massachusetts and graduated in 1868 fromTufts College where he was an instructor in mathematics professor of modern languages. Fay was a pioneer in the development of mountaineering in the Canadian Rockies and the Selkirks, and a founder of the Appalachian Mountain Club and the American Alpine Club. He also edited and wrote for the publications of these two organizations, Appalachia and Alpina Americana respectively, including the monograph, "The Rocky Mountains of Canada."
