Samuel Henry Prince
Samuel Prince was born in New Brunswick, Canada and received his undergraduate degree from the University of Toronto, after which he became an ordained priest. He later pursued a PhD degree in Sociology at Columbia University in NYC. His doctoral dissertation, "Castrophe and Social Change," was the first to be written in the Social Sciences on the subject of a man-made disaster, namely, the devastating explosion on December 6, 1917 of a French munitions ship in the Halifax harbor that killed 22% of the population of the city.
