Samuel Henry Prince (1886 - 1960)
Samuel Prince was born in New Brunswick, Canada and received his undergraduate degree from the University of Toronto, after which he became an ordained priest. He later pursued a PhD degree in Sociology at Columbia University in NYC. His doctoral dissertation, "Catastrophe and Social Change," was the first to be written in the Social Sciences on the subject of a man-made disaster, namely, the devastating explosion on December 6, 1917 of a French munitions ship in the Halifax harbor that killed 22% of the population of the city.
