Anne C. E. Allinson (1871 - 1932)

Anne Crosby Emery Allinson (1871-1932), was the second dean of the Women’s College at Brown University. Miss Emery was born in Hancock Point, Maine, and graduated from Bryn Mawr in 1892. After studying abroad, she at the University of Leipzig, she returned to Bryn Mawr to receive her Ph.D. degree in 1896. She taught a year at Bryn Mawr and was secretary to the president. In 1897 she became assistant professor of classical philology and the first dean of women at the University of Wisconsin. She was a life-long enthusiastic and informed devotee of Greek history, art, and literature.
