Hedwig Dohm (1831 - 1919)
Marianne Adelaide Hedwig Dohm (20 September 1831 – 1 June 1919) was a German feminist and author. She was one of the first feminist thinkers to see gender roles as a result of socialization and not biological determinism. She advocated equal education for girls and boys, and was convinced that economical independence was the one and only way for women not to end up in the "prison of matrimony", but to be able to choose (or decline) a partnership based on equality. She wrote many articles about feminism, and her views are also advocated in her novels.
