William Gordon McCabe (1841 - 1920)
William Gordon McCabe was born in Richmond, Va. As a young man, he served in the Confederate army during the U.S. Civil War. After returning to civilian life, McCabe was an educator, author, poet, translator and editor. Among his works is an anthology of poetry "Ballads of Battle and Bravery" which was published in 1879. From 1909-1920, he was president of the Virginia Historical Society. see Virginia History Series
