Ivor Gurney (1890 - 1937)
Ivor Bertie Gurney (28 August 1890 – 26 December 1937) was an English composer and poet, born in Gloucester. Gurney's studies were interrupted by World War I when he enlisted as a private soldier in the Gloucestershire Regiment in February 1915. Though wounded and gassed, he survived the war, but in later years suffered a serious mental condition and died aged 47 of tuberculosis.
