idea for libraries & librarians

Here’s an idea:

Download a bunch of LibriVox books (best perhaps to sample to hear the quality … solo books will be safest, since you’ll know more or less the quality of the whole book by listening to a bit of one chapter).

then put those mp3s into itunes on one of your computers (PC or mac)… and offer a service to upload our books to patrons’ ipods … or to transfer the mp3s to any other mp3 player, or even to USB memory keys.

I am a librarian and I have catalogued a librivox title into our catalog as an audio book. The cataloging points to the link, so anyone can download it from Librivox. I need to add more!

hi george… that’s excellent…i think one good thing libraries could do is take advantage of their broadband connections for patrons who are less savvy. Some libraries are buying ipods/mp3 players, and stocking them up with audio books, and lending those out…

    interesting times for librarians!

I’m a librarian in a college and have downloaded set books, poetry and shakespeare sonnets for lecturers. You’re providing a very useful service indeed – look forward to more stuff!
