Martha Banning Thomas (1888 - 1968)
Martha Banning Thomas was an American author. She taught kindergarten until she was struck by polio. She subsequently supported herself by writing, primarily short stories and poems sent to Canadian and American magazines. Her first story was published when she was fourteen; by 1928 she was contributing poetry to the NEW YORKER as "Patience Eden." She also occasionally published as "Calvin George," a reversal of her father's Christian names.
