About Me
I love technology and literature, what a way to combine efforts! I first listened to an audio book on cassette in either 1995 or 1996. It was Richard Bachman's The Regulators ever since then I have loved the format.
I came across LibriVox through a link on MSNBC.com and lurked for a few days to get a feel for what is going on and I love it. A very good group of people run the show and the levels of readers and their input are helping LibriVox grow what seems to be pretty rapidly!
What do I do before recording?
I'm pretty new to reading, but here has been my methodology as I've tested different approaches:
1) Sign up!! (that was easy)
2) Download the text from Project Gutenberg.
3) Open the text file and copy the chapter(s) I'm going to work on; then I paste them into MS Word and reformat the page so it flows well, and is comfortably readable, and then spell check. (Turn off the grammar checker - it has no use in this application.)
4) Save the chapter(s) into a file folder separate from any other readings.
5) Then I often cross-reference the Internet to see if other sites have the book. This allows me to compare spelling issues.
6) I look for words I'm not sure I know how to pronounce properly and then I look at Merriam-Webster Online to listen to pronunciations. If I find a word I'm not pronouncing properly I download the .wav file into the folder I've already created. Then I can refresh my memory by listening to that again. I have posted to the forums to ask about foreign words as well.
