Arthur Weir was born in Montreal. In 1895 he was selected to read the inaugural poem at the unveiling of the national monument to Sir John Macdonald at Ottawa. He also wrote the inaugural poem for the unveiling of the monument to Maisonneuve, dedicated on the same day.
