Read by William Coon.

This week we present William Coon reading the story of the Duplicity of Hargraves by O. Henry. In this short story you’ll hear the very funny tale of Major Pendleton Talbot “of Mobile sir” in which William personifies the ante-bellum southern noble so well. William gives us a wonderful reading of a greatly amusing story. Listen to the whole story and find out exactly why Hargraves is so openly said to be duplicitous.

I just listened to this story today — it’s a lovely O. Henry and a transparent reading, meaning that the story itself is so much more foreground than the reader. Coon reads with excellent understanding, full commitment, and slightly understated delivery. I was very impressed with the light touch on the accents — to my ear, which is untrained in the various degrees of Southern dialect, the accents were accurate . . . distinctive and clear and a pleasure to hear.

Who picked this? This was a great Weekly Pick selection!
