Hi, Steven.

I'd be happy to give you a hand on this project.
Star surgeon is not PD here, so I wouldn't be listening to your files and I shouldn't be downloading them (It would be great if you could ftp. Could you let me know?).
If you don't mind that, I'll MC this for you.

Could Scott D. Farquhar register on the forum? It's just not to have to use "no-forum-name-##" as his username.

The file names should be star_surgeon_01_nourse.mp3 (all lower case and with the book author's name at the end.

The ID3 tags look good. Although I would make the title a bit shorter and not use quotation marks: # - chapter title (eg.: 1 - The Intruder (instead of Chapter 1 "The Intruder")).

As you know, the librivox disclaimer at the beginning of each recording is:
Quote:
[Chapter #] of Star Surgeon. This is a LibriVox recording. All LibriVox recordings are in the public domain. For more information, or to volunteer, please visit: librivox DOT org. Star Surgeon by Alan E. Nourse, read by [your name (optional)]
and:
Quote:
End of Chapter #
at the end of each chapter, adding
Quote:
End of Star Surgeon
when finishing the last chapter.

If it's alright with you, I'll set it up in the database tomorrow evening (GMT+1).

Cheers,

Sounds good. Yes, I can ftp -- I trust you mean upload them to an ftp server? I can probably arrange to setup ftp hosting temporarily, as well.

I can have Scott register, but we were trying to keep things consolidated under one username. Want to use mine? Or I'll just get him signed up. Your call.

Yes, I meant upload to an ftp server.

Your catalogue name is linked to your username so, it would be easier if he had his own. But in the catalogue, we can link to the same site as for you.

I'm now off. Long days this week.

I'll send you the info you'll need for the ftp tomorrow, when I've set up the project.

Make sure you use two-digit numbers in the id3 tags (to match the filenames). e.g. 01 - The Intruder

Minding my own business now :)

Have fun!

Steven, the project is entered in the database.
I've added the window in the first post.
And, I'm sending you the info to edit it.

I haven't entered a reader name (username) as I don't know which one to put in yet.

At some point, we'll need a summary for the catalogue.

I'm going to enjoy this one when it's finished! I'd volunteer to proof, but I've got enogh listeneing to do right now...maybe when I finish one or more of my other prjects...if there's proofing still to be done. Glad to see that SFFAudio's challenge has resulted in quite a few new PD SciFi books being recorded and released through LibriVox. Very Happy

Ezwa... The two web spaces I have at my disposal seem to have issues at the moment. You mentioned something about getting me instructions to get this transferred to Anita, so I think I'd like you to send me that so I can get Chapter 1 up and get some feedback going. The mp3 is a bit over 19 megs, I think.

I wasn't happy with my Chapter 2 I recorded last night, so I think I'm going to do it again.

I read and enjoyed the print version a number of years ago, before I became legally blind. I've wanted to enjoy it again, but scrolling back and forth on the computer screen is tiring and not enjoyable. I'm glad more SciFi books are being read (and I'm enjoying the Arbiter Chronicles from PRT, too!)

If you need a proof-listener, let me know either here or via PM If Im not totally overwhelmed by other projects, I'd be glad to listen for you.

Paul

It looks like I successfully got Chapter 1 uploaded and linked.

I'm still insecure about the technical level of the recording. There's a bit too many hard consonant 'plosives for my taste, but I might be overly picky.

Comments would be welcome. Especially before I continue with other chapters!

Ow, ow, ow! OK, Scott has successfully (via PM) twisted my arm far enough (a 16th of an inch or so) so that I will add yet another project to my proof-listening load. Chocoholic must have been right when she posted over on the Hound of the Baskervilles thread that I'm "a listenin' fool".

I'll D/L chapter 1 and have a listen over the weekend.

Paul
