Complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page:
http://librivox.org/the-lilac-fairy-book-edited-by-andrew-lang/
NOTE: Don't forget the "This recording is in the public domain at the end of your story. I added the line to the instructions and the sample script. BC-Becky
The LILAC Fairy Book by Andrew Lang, Editor.
- How to claim a part, and 'how it all works' here
To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are “up for grabs.” Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you’d like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
- New to recording?
Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
- Is there a deadline?
Target completion date of this project: June 2007 – but try to send your recordings as soon as you can. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it’ll go back to the pool. There’s no shame in this; we’re all volunteers and things happen.
- Where do I find the text?
Gutenberg e-text: http://www.gutenberg.org/etext/3454
Mythology-Folk-lore This site makes it easy to find the text for each story, just copy and paste to your processor. The text is identical, thus far, to Project Gutenberg's. I added the url for each story to the project assignment chart. Just copy and paste it in your browser.
- Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)!
link
- BEFORE recording:
Please check the Recording Notes:
http://librivox.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=6427#6430
Set your recording software to:
Bit Rate: 128 kbps
Sample Rate: 44.1 kHz preferred, 32 and 22.5 also acceptable
- DURING recording:
Make sure you add this to the beginning of your recording:
Start of recording (Intro)- "[Story Title] from [The Lilac Fairy Book.] This is a LibriVox recording. All LibriVox recordings are in the public domain. For more information, or to volunteer, please visit: librivox DOT org"
- If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name]"
- Say:
"Title, by Author. [Story Title]"
Sample Script: “[The Raspberry Worm] from The Lilac Fairy Book. This is a LibriVox recording. All LibriVox recordings are in the public domain. For more information, or to volunteer, please visit: librivox DOT org. Recording by [your name]. The Lilac Fairy Book by Andrew Lang, Editor, [The Raspberry Worm, a tale from Finland]. Suggestion: Write out the script with the correct information filled in. An index card works well. Make one for the beginning statement and a separate one for the end.
Record your story.
Make sure you add this to the end of your recording:
- At the end of the story, say:
“End of [Story Title], This recording is in the public domain"
If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
- At the end of the book, say:
"End of [Story Title]. [End of Book Title] by [Author].Then say, This recording is in the public domain" Sample script:“End of The Winning of Olwen, End of The Lilac Fairy Book by Andrew Lang, Editor. This recording is in the public domain. Recording by [your name], city, blog podcast, web address, etc.”
Please leave 5 seconds silence at the end of your recording, or 10 seconds for files longer than 30 minutes!
Also, please remember to check this thread frequently for updates!
- AFTER recording:
Save files as
128 kbps MP3
lilacfairybook_##_lang.mp3 (all lower-case) where ## is your section number. (lilacfairybook_01_lang.mp3)
ID3 V2 tags
(To find out more about ID3 tags, go to our wiki: http://librivox.org/wiki/moin.cgi/WhatIsID3)
Add the following tags to your .mp3 file (how you do this depends on which software you use – if you are unsure about ID3 tags, send me a message). Please mind upper and lower case!
Title: Short Story title: ##, [Origin] (Origin means the country of origin, it is listed after the title in the Title section.)
Artist: Andrew Lang, Editor
Album: Lilac Fairy Book
Please ignore tags for Genre and Track Number - these will be filled in automatically at the cataloguing stage.
Transfer of files (completed recordings)
Files can either be posted here in the forum (link to your webspace) or emailed via http://yousendit.com to: radekker at gmail dot com (if you use yousendit, it's helpful if you'll post the resulting link in this thread)
I'll need the following information from you when you submit a recording:
- your name/pseudonym as you want to appear in the LibriVox catalog, and your website URL if you like. These are only necessary if this is your first LibriVox recording.
- the file size of your .mp3 file.
Any questions?

Oh! And I took out the initials part of the filename, as it's only necessary for the short works and various collections. It's because there's no chapter number to put in the filename, so there needs to be some other way to distinguish between one or the other. _________________ LV T-shirts |

So sorry Claire, tired tonight and I missed it! Road trip wonky! You are now on board! I am so excited to see everyone jumping on board the fairy tale express! Lang compiled 12 books, so I hope everyone is in for some wonderful reads in the future.

Well, I'm in the mood for a bit of Scottish H2O, so sign me up for Section 9.

Just a little bump-editing didn't send it to the top.
Would love to have a bit of input on this recording if anyone would be so kind and have the time. I am learning to remove noises and would like to know if tthe sound is smooth and the cuts are fairly seamless. Thank you so much.
The Raspberry Worm
My info needs to be added to the end.
