This project is now complete. All files can be found in our catalog: http://librivox.org/the-essays-of-francis-bacon/

Please ignore the word "quote." I have not yet figured out how to create a nifty box without using that BBCode feature. Anyways, if no one has claimed them, I should like to claim and record the "Essays of Francis Bacon."

OH MY GOD.

I really want to MC for this, if it's alright with you. Smile I love Bacon. (Pun intended for sure.)

Very cool project. Caet, will you put yourself in the subject line with your MC 'initials?'

Caeristhiona,

That is perfectly fine with me.

And just so you know: I, too, love Bacon.

Because it is past midnight and because I just got done having the oh-my-god-best-night-ever, I am going to enter this in the catalog in the morning. Smile But the subject line is duly edited.

Caeristhiona,

If I am not much mistaken, it appears that you may know Latin. If this is so, I need some help with pronunciations. I have provided about 1/4 of the quotations which Mr. Bacon uses. If you are able to assist with these--either through phonetic spelling or an uploaded mp3--I believe I can then extrapolate the proper pronunciations of the remaining phrases.

Thanks.

Carl

BEGIN LATIN PHRASES; unless otherwise noted.

vinum daemonum

Pompa mortis magis terret, quam mors ipsa

Cogita quamdiu eadem feceris; mori velle, non tantum fortis aut miser, sed etiam fastidiosus potest.

Oh yes, I can do that. Smile I'll make the mp3 tonight, and send you a link. Is this the Latin from the WHOLE book, or just from the first essay?

Caeristhiona,

These are only from about the first eight essays!

Of course, if I have problems with the remaining phrases; well, I suppose there is no point in relating to whom I shall repair. Smile

Caeristhiona,

Hey, just checking to see if you had had a chance to send that mp3 yet?

So sorry about that! Believe it or not, I actually lost my voice for a whole day. Sad But here is the link:

http://www.gigasize.com/get.php/251906/latinstuff.mp3

A couple good basic principles of Latin pronunciation:

The vowels are pronounced as follows:
a = ahh
e = ay
i = ee
o = oh
u = oo
ae = ay
oe = ae
ai = long i

C is pronounced "ch" when in front of e, i, ae, or oe.

The t in "tia", "tium", and "tius" is pronounced "ts."

J's and V's are pronounced as I's and W's respectively, though that's certainly not necessary; in fact, most modern Latin incorporates V's and J's. I think I tend to alternate between the two when I am speaking. Smile

If you have any other questions, just let me know!

- Caet

Carl -

Just checking in here to see how the project is going. LibriVox policy requires that all soloists post in their project once a month, just to let us know how it's going -- even if it's just to say "I don't have time to work on this right now but I'm still interested." So...how's this going?

Sometimes that happens. If anyone has thier own acount, they can sign into that and still retrieve it so no problem. (most of us have accounts)
