This project is now complete. All the files can be downloaded from our catalogue: http://librivox.org/the-tenant-of-wildfell-hall-by-anne-bronte/

The Tenant of Wildfell Hall by Anne Brontë.

  1. How to claim a part, and 'how it all works' here
To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are “up for grabs.” Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you’d like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.

  2. New to recording?
Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!

  3. Is there a deadline?
UPDATED Target completion date of this project: November 30, 2007 – but try to send your recordings as soon as you can. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it’ll go back to the pool. There’s no shame in this; we’re all volunteers and things happen.

  4. Where do I find the text?
    Gutenberg e-text: http://www.gutenberg.org/etext/969

  5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)!

    (Admin link)

  6. BEFORE recording:
    Please check the Recording Notes:
    http://librivox.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=6427#6430

    Set your recording software to:
    Bit Rate: 128 kbps
Sample Rate: 44.1 kHz preferred, 32 and 22.5 also acceptable

  7. DURING recording:
Make sure you add this to the beginning and end of your recording:
    Start of recording (Intro)
    • "Chapter ## of The Tenant of Wildfell Hall. This is a LibriVox recording. All LibriVox recordings are in the public domain. For more information, or to volunteer, please visit: librivox DOT org."

    • If you wish, say:
      "Recording by [your name]."

    • Say:
"The Tenant of Wildfell Hall, by Anne Brontë, Chapter ##."

    End of recording
    • At the end of the section, say:
      End of Chapter ##."
      If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]."

    • At the end of the book, say (in addition):
"End of The Tenant of Wildfell Hall, by Anne Brontë."

Please leave 5 seconds silence at the end of your recording, or 10 seconds for files longer than 30 minutes!

Also, please remember to check this thread frequently for updates!

  8. AFTER recording:
    Need noise-cleaning?
Listen to your file through headphones. If you can hear some background noise, you may want to clean it up a bit. The new (free) version 1.3.3. of Audacity (Mac/Win) has much improved noise-cleaning. See this thread for more information.

    Save files as
    128 kbps MP3
tenantofwildfellhall_##_annebronte.mp3 (all lower-case) where ## is your section number. (tenantofwildfellhall_01_annebronte.mp3)

    ID3 V2 tags
(To find out more about ID3 tags, go to our wiki: http://librivox.org/wiki/moin.cgi/WhatIsID3)
Add the following tags to your .mp3 file (how you do this depends on which software you use – if you are unsure about ID3 tags, send me a message). Please mind upper and lower case!

    Title: Chapter ##
    Artist: Anne Bronte
Album: The Tenant of Wildfell Hall

Please ignore tags for Genre and Track Number - these will be filled in automatically at the cataloguing stage.

    Transfer of files (completed recordings)
Please always post in this forum thread when you've sent a file.
Also, post the length of the recording (file duration: mm:ss) together with the link.

    • Upload your file with the LibriVox Uploader (when your upload is complete, you will receive a link - please post it in this thread):
      http://upload.librivox.org

(If you have trouble reading the image above, please message an admin)
You'll need to select the MC, which for this project is: ge - Gesine
    • If this doesn't work, or you have questions, please check our How To Send Your Recording wiki page.

I'll need the following information from you when you submit a recording:
    - your name as you want it to appear in the LibriVox catalog,
    - your webpage URL (if applicable)
    - the runtime of the recording in format hh:mm:ss

Any questions?
Please post below or PM me. Smile

OK, time I took an MC project again... I'll do this one. I'm in a feminist mood today, so this one's good. :) Wait for the magic window to appear.

Michelle, the reader list is now in the first post. I started doing the titles, but would you finish them? :)

I changed the Gutenberg link in your first post; sometimes deeper PG links cause errors (yours did for me just now). The ones with the number at the end seem less error-prone.

Do you have your own server space?

Unless you'd like to read it yourself, I'd be happy to read the Preface.

Thank you, Gesine! Should be all set, and you are down for the Preface.

I do not have server space, so any directions in that vein would be appreciated. In the past, I have always kept all the files on my local drive at home.

Thanks, Michelle. Well, we've had some accidents with broken computers and the like, so these days we recommend putting at least a backup copy on a server somewhere. It's also a good thing for proof-listening - you could post in the Listeners Wanted forum to see if you could get a dedicated proof-listener, for example (there's a sticky there), who listens as the files come in. Seems to speed up projects, and you have a much better chance of getting the original readers to editing their pieces! :) Just an idea. If not for proof-listening, completed files will still be displayed so any interested readers can listen.

You're welcome to use my Uploader: http://librivox.gesine.org/ password upl0ad1t please read info on that page. When files come in to the inbox there I get an email, and will move the files to a dedicated folder... say http://librivox.gesine.org/upload/wildfell/[filename]
If you like, I edit the reader list to paste in the Listen URL when I've moved the file to the folder - that way you'll know it has arrived.

I'd love to do chapter 1. I'm a fan of the Brönte sisters, and have all their books Smile

Best wishes,

Thank you, Farida.

Please do not hesitate to ask if you have questions. Our Newbie Guide is very helpful if you've not completed any recordings yet.

Oh Michelle, I meant to ask - is the target completion date really Aug. 2008? Not 2007?

LOL - ok. There *are* many chapters, but I'm certainly hoping we won't need 18 months to complete this book... ;)

Welcome! Please be sure to peruse the Newbie Guide before getting started. Feel free to post questions on this board or on Need Help? Got Advice? Also, it's a good idea to post a short sample of your reading once you get started so that any technical issues you may need assistance with can be ironed out before you put too much work in. There are a lot of helpful people around here!

Thanks,
Michelle

Hi

I'd like to read Chapter 8 if I may? This will be my first reading for Librivox, but I've found the Newbie guide really helpful so far!

Thank you!
