This audiobook is now complete and available to download from the catalogue page:-
http://librivox.org/multilingual-poetry-collection-002/

LibriVox Multilingual Poetry Collection 002

This collection is for poetry in any language. Feel free to choose any poem which is in the public domain.

If you're unsure what we mean by 'public domain', please read this explanation.

Each reader should not submit more than two poems in any language. It's fine if we have several readers submitting poems in the same language. It's also fine if the same reader submits poems in more than one language. It's also OK to submit readings in English (English being a language, I figure), but as there are plenty of other places to put those, let's limit them to special cases such as interesting regional dialects or accents.

Each collection will consist of twenty poems.

If you are interested to see what has been done previously, check the previous volume here: http://librivox.org/multilingual-poetry-collection-001/

Recording Information
At the beginning, read the abbreviated "librivox disclaimer":
"[Poem title], by [author], read in [language] for LibriVox.org by [your name]" or some variation on that, adding date, location, your personal url, if you wish.

At the End say: "End of poem. This recording is in the public domain."

If you are new, please check the Recording Notes thread before recording:
http://librivox.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=6427#6430
If this is your first recording, you'll also find this useful:
http://librivox.org/wiki/moin.cgi/NewbieGuideToRecording

I was inspired by Starlite's pronunciation question to do a poem in Scots, so here is "Comin Thro' the Rye" by 'the Bard':
http://download.yousendit.com/8C6A79B57E9A1CE9

Length is 1:07, link to text is:
http://oldpoetry.com/opoem/398-Robert-Burns-Comin-Thro--The-Rye
[note that both here and at wikipedia they mention this poem as one progenitor of Salinger's book...]

I apologize in advance to all real Scots for my accent Very Happy

Hi David,

I'd like to submit the poem "Ícaro" by "Machado de Assis". The language is Brazilian Portuguese and here is the link for the audio:

And the text can be found here:

Thanks,
Rennê

If anyone else wants a go at speaking a bit of Irish I'll lay out the transcript for you...

Title: Amhrán na bhFiann

(English)
Soldiers are we
whose lives are pledged to Ireland;
Some have come
from a land beyond the wave.
Sworn to be free,
No more our ancient ireland
Shall shelter the despot or the slave.
Tonight we man the bearna baoil
In Erin's cause, come woe or weal;
'Mid cannon's roar and rifles' peal,
We'll chant a soldier's song.

(Irish)
Sinne Fianna Fáil
Atá faoi gheall ag Éirinn,
Buíon dár slua
Thar toinn do ráinig chughainn,
Faoi mhóid bheith saor.
Sean-tír ár sinsear feasta
Ní fhágfar faoin tiorán ná faoin tráill
Anocht a théam sa bhearna baoil,
Le gean ar Ghaeil chun báis nó saoil
Le gunna scréach faoi lámhach na bpiléar
Seo libh canaig Amhrán na bhFiann.

Disclaimer: Amhrán na bhFiann, The soldier's song by Peader Kearney and Bulmer Hobson, the national anthem of Ireland read for librivox.org by [your name]

Le Revenant by Charles Baudelaire

Text: http://fleursdumal.org/poem/171

Recording: http://download.yousendit.com/69BA83306891DA37

A bit of background noise, I'm afraid.

Hi Maria,

and thank you for adding a lovely reading to this collection.

The volume is extremely low, however, and will need to be boosted before we catalogue the file. That will in turn make the background noise louder too.

Can you look at your audio set-up and see if you can increase the input volume? If you can find where to make the adjustment, and try recording agian, you'll probably hear a significant improvement.

If you can't find the right control panel, let me know and I'll point you to some help.

David

David, in my PM which I just sent you I totally forgot to mention that I have no clue where the input panel is.

I'll try find out but if you can just tell where in audacity it is located it might even be quicker.

You're dealing with one untechy newbie. Sorry.

It sounds better to me. Does it sound better to you?

Recording: http://download.yousendit.com/F50614472B892B2F

Same text as before. Thx for the tutorial link (cf PM) I guess the problem with my volume is either in the mike (which is built-in, I'm using a laptop) or the soundcard. It's at full blast & can't get any louder than that. I'll see if my techy friends at school can help, otherwise I'll have to make do with that -don't hesitate to kick me out of this thread if so you wish, I know I don't sound exactly like Christopher Lee & for that poem... which I love... well, Christopher Lee would have done better methinks. My sole asset is that I'm free of charge -he isn't.

David,
Die sphinx read by Mr. Duda (name in catalogue already) is in the multilingual folder here.
The e-text is here: http://gutenberg.spiegel.de/poe/skurril/sphinx.htm

The original thread is here.

There was a copyright check (translation by Hedwig Lachmann, first published in 1912).
